Volunteers Needed
for Scioto Brush
Creek Sweep
Cleanup Set for Saturday, May 15
By Bill Wickerham, Adams Soil and Water
Conservation District
Volunteers will
take to the water on Saturday, May 15 in support of the 2010
Scioto Brush Creek Sweep. Annually, participants paddle a
stretch of Scioto Brush Creek, removing litter and debris from
the stream while learning more about the creek.
With more than 30
rare plant and animal species living within the stream's
watershed, or drainage area, Scioto Brush Creek is considered
one of Ohio's highest quality streams. To make
participants more aware of issues affecting the stream, speakers
will present information and discuss water quality concerns
during the cleanup.
The Adams Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) will
provide canoes, paddles, and life jackets. Participants
should bring a sack lunch and drinks. Because the Scioto
Brush Creek Sweep is conducted in the water, participants must sign a
liability waiver. Participants
under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
For more details or to reserve a spot contact Bill Wickerham at
the Adams SWCD at 937-544-5121 or Jeff Montavon at the Scioto
SWCD at 740-259-9231.
