Brush Creek
Township Park Sees Growth in 2008
By Thelma Shirey
December 2008

Several major
strides were made in 2008 to develop the Brush Creek Township
Community Park. Through a number of activities and fundraisers,
the park experienced significant growth and thanks to the hard
work of a number of local residents, the community celebrated
the park’s official opening in May.
Volunteers were
involved in several work days throughout the year, enhancing the
appearance of the park, and preparing the area for the future.
Work completed this year includes installation of posts and
fence boards around the walking track, a finished volleyball
court and tether ball, excavation of a basketball court, and
application of gravel in the parking lot. Additionally, a
proposed layout for the park was developed this fall, complete
with placement of playground equipment and plans for a shelter
house. Many of these projects will be funded through a
$12,000 Nature Works Grant that was awarded to the park by ODNR
this fall.
Several Friends of
Scioto Brush Creek volunteers have been instrumental in moving
the project forward. Still, donations of money, materials and
manpower are necessary for the park’s success.
