Adams Soil and Water Conservation District
Awarded Ohio EPA Mini Grant
Bill Wickerham, Adams Soil and Water Conservation District
August 2008

This summer, the Adams Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) was awarded $5,000 for a mini grant from the Ohio Environmental Education Fund - a Division of the Ohio EPA.  With the funds from the grant, the Adams SWCD plans to purchase eight canoes for environmental education and cleanup events in Adams County.  With the newly purchased canoes, the Adams SWCD will sponsor presentations to show the impact of soil erosion and pollution on the environment.
Canoes purchased with the grant funds will be used for events such as the Scioto Brush Creek Sweep.

In 2007, the Adams SWCD coordinated the Scioto Brush Creek Sweep, using eight canoes that were purchased with money from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Watercraft's "Boating Safety Education Grant."  The additional eight canoes will allow for more participants to be involved in the event.

Plans for the the 2009 Scioto Brush Creek Sweep are set for Saturday, May 16.  In the event of rain or high water, the sweep will be postponed to Saturday, May 23.  Contact the Adams SWCD at (937) 544-2651 for more information.

Scioto Brush Creek is recognized as one of the highest quality streams in Ohio.  Your help is needed to keep it that way!
