Adopt A Highway
 |
Few things spoil Scioto Brush
Creek’s natural beauty as much as litter. Everyone who has ever
fished, kayaked, or taken a dip in the stream has surely noticed
litter and debris in the water or on the stream bank. This trash
is not only an eyesore, but also impairs fish habitats and may
be toxic to sensitive aquatic species.
Often, litter in the stream was discarded from automobiles and
carried to nearby waterways by wind or rain runoff. In an
attempt to prevent some of the litter from finding its way into
Scioto Brush Creek, the Friends of Scioto Brush |
| Creek have
adopted two miles of State Route 348 west of the Village
of Otway. |
Volunteers pick up litter from the location
three times a
year to help beautify the roadway and help prevent the litter
from entering the stream. The Adopt A Highway Program is a
great way to be involved with the Friends of Scioto Brush Creek.
Litter grabbers, trash bags, and safety vests are provided by
the Friends of Scioto Brush Creek. After each cleanup,
volunteers enjoy a potluck lunch.
